I got quotes for holidays in Galway and Tenerife - one is double the price of the other

Summer has finally kicked off and thousands of Irish families are set to head off on holidays around Ireland and around the world.

It's not a secret that the cost of living in Ireland has risen significantly in recent times, making it harder for families to be able to afford a trip away.

For those that can, should you stick to a trip away in Ireland or book elsewhere?

Is it cheaper to book a trip to Spain or Italy instead of Galway or Cork?

Here is a comparison of prices for a two person stay-cation trip away for two nights to help you decide:

If you're looking to book a trip to Dublin, one of the cheaper options I found comes at €164 for a one bedroom wooden cabin on the outskirts of Dublin.

On the other hand in Spain, you could book a double room in Marbella for €259.

Another cheaper option in Ireland I found was a two bedroom cottage in Cork that costs €660.

Compared to Italy, you could book a holiday apartment for €376, around half the price!

I was blown away by the price comparisons for holiday homes in Ireland compared to European holiday homes, especially because the ones in the likes of Spain and Italy all have pools and guaranteed sunshine.

It makes more sense in my opinion to just book a trip abroad from what I could find on a quick search online.

If Galway is on your bucket list, you could book a room at a guesthouse for €340.

Or, for half the price, you could book a one bedroom apartment in Tenerife for €154!

I tried to find the most budget friendly options for each destination while also including places I would actually like to go myself.

To conclude, I will definitely be booking a trip to sunny Spain or Italy instead!
