Two women and two children have been seriously injured in a two-car crash in Co Sligo.

The collision took place on the N59 in Ballysadare before 2.30pm on Easter Monday.

Two women aged in their 40s and 20s, a nine-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, who were all in one vehicle, were seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital.

A woman aged in her 50s, who was the only occupant of the second vehicle, was taken to the hospital for assessment.

Local traffic diversions were put in place as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene.

An appeal has been issued to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone with footage relevant to the incident, to come forward.
