Gardaí in Carlow while conducting a speed checkpoint when they caught a learner driver driving 170kmh on the m9 motorway.
The driver was arrested for dangerous driving and charged to appear in court with their vehicle seized.
The Gardaí posted about the incident on the An Garda Síochána Carlow Facebook page.

The tweet from An Garda Síochána Twitter account and it reads:
Learner Permit holder driving dangerously on M9
Last weekend Carlow Roads Policing were carrying out a speed checkpoint on the M9 motorway when they detected this jeep travelling at 175km/h. When stopped, it was discovered that driver was on their first Learner Permit and not accompanied by a qualified driver. The driver was arrested for Dangerous Driving and charged to appear in court. The jeep was seized under the Clancy Amendment (unaccompanied Learner) and impounded.
If convicted in court, the driver faces a disqualification from driving for two years and a fine of up to €5000.
