ALERT: Man arrested following serious assault of woman in her 20's

A woman in her 20's was assaulted at a residence in Cork City and a man in his 40's has been arrested.

Gardaí in Cork are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the assault that occurred on the morning of Monday February 10 2025.

Shortly after 9.40 am, Gardaí responded to reports of an assault at a residential property in Cork City.

A woman aged in her 20’s sustained injuries following the assault, Gardaí said.

In a follow up search, a man, aged in his 40’s, was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Cork City area, Gardaí said.

The young woman, according to CorkBeo, was attacked with a bladed weapon and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

"She was initially treated at the scene by paramedics and has since been brought to Cork University Hospital," CorkBeo has reported.

"Armed Support Units and a helicopter could be seen hovering over the area while the search was carried out, the area around the property was sectioned off, and Gardaí conducted a technical examination," according to CorkBEO.
