Gardai investigate cause of fire at Cork apartment where man was found dead

Gardai are investigating the cause of a fire at a Cork apartment where a man was found dead.

The man, aged in his 60s, was found dead inside the property on Togher Road on Friday evening after firefighters brought the blaze under control.

Investigating gardai said on Saturday they were continuing work to determine the cause of the fire, which was reported to the emergency services around 6.50pm.

They said the results of a planned post-mortem on the man would assist in guiding the course of the investigation.

The building remained cordoned off on Saturday to facilitate a technical examination of the scene.
