Gardaí share heartwarming story of two gardaí returning lost phone to elderly woman

A wholesome ending as Mountjoy gardaí return stolen phone to sisters before going back on the job despite 'lovely, kind' offer of a cup of tea

Gardaí share heartwarming story of two gardaí returning lost phone to elderly woman
An Garda Síochána shared a heartwarming update to their social media on two Mountjoy gardaí who were out on a job on Thursday January 16.
Garda Mark Condron and Garda Pete Burn who are both attached to Mountjoy Garda Station were out in the North Inner City when they came across a phone and some personal documents discarded behind a bin.
Back at the station they made enquiries to locate the owner but were unable to find a person with that name resident in Ireland. They tried all the possible variations of the name including "Bridie", "Bríd", "Breege", "Biddy", "Etta", "Breej" and "Breda".
Eventually, they were able to track down a sister of Bridget and got through to Carmel by phone.
As luck would have it, Bridget was with her sister after making the journey down from Antrim for the day to go see a show together in the Bord Gáis.
When they got back to Carmel’s home in the early evening, Garda Condron dropped in Bridget’s phone which appeared to have been stolen out of her handbag that morning but she hadn’t missed it yet.
The updated concluded: "The lads didn’t take up Carmel and Bridget on their lovely kind offer to stay for the tea, but were glad they could help."
Hundreds of people left comments of praise and gratitude to Mountjoy gardaí and as well as light hearted comments on the tea offer, as one person commented: "Good work. Carmel and Bridget not as persuasive as Mrs Doyle of Father Ted!"
