Gardai have highlighted the detection on social media
The Christmas festivities came to a premature end for a teenage boy who was stopped while driving a tractor festooned in Christmas lights through the middle of a busy town in the west of Ireland.
Highlighting the detection on social media, gardai say they encountered the tractor while on routine patrol in Clifden, County Galway this Saturday morning.
"We were on our patrols when we spotted this tractor being driven through the middle of town," read the post.
"The tax on the tractor had been expired for over 300 days. The insurance and CVRT were expired as well. Oh, and the driver was a 16 year-old," added the spokesperson.
Photographs posted online show the tractor had even been fitted out with Christmas lights to mark the festive season.

No reference has been made to the Christmas lights and gardai have not publicly disclosed any further information relating to the incident.
Because of the age of the driver, it's unclear if any further proceedings will be initiated.
