Still from a video showing the storms in Mallorca
Irish tourists have been warned to be vigilant as storms have hit the popular holiday destination of Mallorca in Spain.
The Spanish Met Office, AEMET, issued a red level warning earlier today alerting the public that there would be "Extreme danger of rain in the the north and north-east of Mallorca. Very adverse situation during Wednesday and in the early hours and morning of Thursday."
One Irish tourist who is currently holidaying at the popular destination, posted this video to Carlow Weather's Facebook page following a post by weatherman Alan O'Reilly warning tourists of the red level warning.
AEMET said that intense showers and storms are affect a large part of the peninsula on Wednesday, with storms already becoming increasingly stronger in the Balearic Islands, and gusts of up to 100km/h should be expected. Significant hail that is greater than 2cm is also forecast for the area.
Thursday is expected to be the same with very strong showers and storms forecast with more than 60mm per hour torrential rain.
Locals and tourists are strongly advised to regularly check weather models and strictly follow guidance from local authorities,
Travellers heading to the popular destination are being told to prepare for adverse weather conditions and possible disruptions.
