A dog that survived for a month after her owner died is now looking for a new home. Daisy, described by her foster family as a "wee dote of a dog" was found when PSNI officer broke into a home in East Belfast and found a man dead.

The man was Daisy's owner and his loyal companion had stayed by his side in the house. She pierced holes in water bottles in order to stay alive and was curled up when police got there.

She is now the subject of a rehoming appeal through the Lost and Found Pets North Down page on Facebook. They posted pictures of her doing well since her ordeal with details of her rescue.

"This little lady came into our care in very tragic circumstances. The PSNI had to break entry into a home in East Belfast where the elderly owner of this little dog was found deceased and believed to have passed away at least a month ago, bless him.

"This little lady was by his side throughout. In survival mode she had pulled some bottles out and pierced them to try and get water.

"Obviously she is very frightened and confused and doesn't understand what is going on, however, she is now in one of our foster homes and we will work with her over the coming days and weeks."

Daisy has done well since that post last Monday and is now in need of a new home.

Another post on the page reads: "Daisy is a very sweet six-year-old Chihuahua cross that has recently suffered the very traumatic death of her owner and survived all by herself for a month.

"We are now ready to find her forever home so she can get settled into a new life where she will get all the TLC she needs and deserves.

"What we are looking for...a quiet, laid-back home where there is not too much chaos going on as Daisy is a little timid until she gets to know you.

"No children under 12 (Daisy is good with kids however we feel it would be too much for her), no cats."

"She can happily live as an only dog however will consider another friendly laid back dog in the home. Daisy is fabulous in the car/van and also loves her walks.

"Daisy has been health checked and had first vacs today and been wormed/deflead. We are unsure if spayed so will have to wait and see for now, however, if not spayed we will arrange this through our vet at a later date."

"If you think you could offer Daisy her forever home please call Andrea on 07414061455 Mon to Friday between 7.30pm and 10.30pm or Sat/Sun all day/evening or Whatsapp 07414061455 or email lostandfoundpetsnorthdown@outlook.com."
