Gardai investigating the murder of a young man in Dublin at the weekend recovered a firearm close to the scene, it has been confirmed.
The alarm was raised shortly after midnight on Monday after gardaí received multiple reports of shots being fired at Knocknarea Road in Drimnagh.
Gardaí subsequently discovered that a man, aged in his early 20s, had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to save him, he died from his injuries at the scene.
In an update, issued this Tuesday afternoon, gardai say they are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Three men, who were arrested nearby shortly after the incident, remain in custody and a post mortem will be carried out this Tuesday afternoon by State Pathologist Heidi Okkers.
"During the course of this investigation Gardaí have recovered a firearm. This firearm will be subject to forensic examination. All scenes held have now been lifted following the completion of technical examinations. All roads have been reopened," said a garda spokesperson who added: "A number of cars seized have been taken to a secure garda storage facility for forensic examination."
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward and any information received will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
