This new allowance for workers could be worth an extra €550 in your pocket

The new Statutory Sick Pay Scheme sees new rules and entitlement for workers when they are sick and unable to work

Workers could be entitled to an extra €550 under new employment rules to cover sick leave.  

The Statutory Sick Pay Scheme is now in operation and will be extended to cover more days over the coming years to ensure people are paid when they are ill and unable to work.

From January 1st of this year, workers are now entitled to five days of sick pay up to a maximum of €110 a day.

The Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is the legal minimum sick pay.

The entitlement to paid sick leave has been introduced on a phased basis with 5 days covered for 2024. In 2025, 7 days will be covered and in 2026, 10 days covered

Sick days can be taken as consecutive days or non-consecutive days.

The sick pay year is a calendar year, so will run from 1 January to 31 December.
