Garda warning to boy racers over one car feature that could land them in trouble
Gardaí have issued a reminder to motorists about illegal window tints on cars and the test they use to detect them.
In a post on social media, gardaí said: "Modified cars might look slick, but there’s nothing class about not being able to fully see through excessively blacked out windows while driving.
"Did you know that it’s an offence if your windows don’t pass the tint compliance test?"
They shared a video of a garda testing a cars window to see if the tint is permitted by law.
Garda use a device that tests the percentage of light penetrating the window and anything lower than 65% is deemed a fail and an offence.
Gardaí say that tinting like this compromises your safety and your visibility as a driver, particularly at night.
