Vigil held for homeless woman found dead in Dublin

A vigil has been held in Dublin city after a homeless woman was found dead.

Ann Delaney was found on Aungier Street in Dublin city on Sunday.

Bouquets of flowers, candles, packets of crisps and bottles of water have been left near the scene in memory of the 47-year-old mother from Crettyard, Co Laois.

At 8pm on Monday, people gathered near the place where she was found to sing and release balloons.

The not-for-profit group Liberty Soup Run said that they were “heartbroken” and in disbelief at her death.

A business near where Ms Delaney was found described her as “a very lovely neighbour” who was “a well-liked local character”.

Gardai said in a statement: “Having been notified by staff at St James Hospital, as per protocol, An Garda Siochana is conducting inquiries into a sudden death of a female which occurred on February 25 for the purpose of preparing a file for the coroner.”
