It will be a "battle of cold to the North and mild to the South next week", according to Carlow Weather.
Carlow Weather also say that the cold might "win the battle for a while towards the end of the week", as Met Éireann agree that cold nights with some frost and ice are expected across midland and northern counties.
Tuesday is said to be a wet day with widespread heavy rain and the chance of some spot flooding. Maximum temperatures generally ranging from 9 to 12 degrees but turning much colder across north Ulster during the day with afternoon highs of just 5 to 8 degrees there.
Rain is then expected to clear to the south on Tuesday night and it will become dry, but a cold night with some frost and ice is expected, especially across midland and northern counties. Lowest temperatures will range from -1 to +4 degrees.
Early indications are that Wednesday will be mostly dry at first with some sunshine but rain is expected to develop in the south later. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in light east or variable winds.
It is then likely to stay unsettled in the latter days of next week and turning colder, with the potential for some wintry precipitation.
