Gardaí seek to remind the public that "driving behaviour causes dangerous collisions" after one motorist had a "lucky escape".

Gardaí in Monaghan were alerted to a dangerous hit-and-run incident last Saturday night, after a concerned passerby discovered a crashed car that had collided with an electricity pole, causing significant damage.

Upon arriving at the scene, Gardaí were alarmed to find an empty car with no driver or passengers in sight. The immediate concern was heightened when it became apparent that the front and back seats were filled with empty and half-drunk bottles of alcohol.

The incident unfolded without any indication of the driver's whereabouts.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities among other road users.

A garda spokesperson has said: "Luckier again that no other road users were killed or injured as a consequence."
