2 Johnnies discuss horror moment Johnny Smacks nearly lost finger in 3Arena guitar smash

THE 2 JOHNNIES have discussed the horror moment Johnny McMahon, known as Johnny Smacks, sustained an injury during the duo's Christmas gig in Dublin's 3Arena.

The Tipperary pair were playing to almost 15,000 people at the Dublin venue when apparently a Garth Brooks-esque guitar smash went wrong.

Speaking on their recent podcast episode titled "D'Finger", Johnny Smacks and Johnny B discussed the incident at length with the initial plan including the smashing of cheap guitars at the end of Garth Brooks song "Friends in Low places."

Johnny Smacks continued by saying "Once I got down off the stage I could see clean through the finger and there was bone looking back at me. I was still in shock and couldn't really feel the pain of it until our tour manager James Hayes brought me out the back.

"He sat me down and I just cried into his lap saying I am after f**** the gig I can't even finish the show."

The incident was so serious that Johnny Smacks was then rushed to hospital in the hope that doctors would be able to save his finger.

Of course seeing the funny side of this major accident Smacks was transferred to a garda car to get him into hospital even quicker.

"The cop blue lights it and lads he redden's it to the mater hospital, I'm there in 30 seconds no joke.

"I knew at this stage that it was pretty serious. I got there just in top and the doctors told me if I was an hour later I would have lost the top of my finger."

The Roscrea native was then operated on the morning after the sold-out 3Arena show and is now on the road to recovery after the incident.
