IN PICTURES: The life and times of iconic Pogues star Shane MacGowan

The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan died at the age of 65 last Thursday with his wife and family by his side after a storied life.

Best known for hit festive song Fairytale Of New York, he had been due to celebrate his 66th birthday on Christmas Day. He had revealed he was diagnosed with encephalitis last year in a video posted to social media on New Year’s Eve.

Some of the entertainment world's top performers are reported to have lined up to sing at the Requiem Mass for singer/songwriter which will take place in St Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh, this Friday at 3.30pm.
