Energy provider announces immediate lower electricity prices

New bill to combat high electricity costs welcomed by Kilkenny councillor

Electricity supplier Yuno Energy has announced an immediate 12% reduction in its unit energy cost for its lowest discounted tariff.

The news will be welcomed by hard-pressed households grappling with high energy costs and the cost-of-living crisis.

A number of energy companies recently announced a drop in charges, and with Yuno having entered the market offering lower electricity costs in recent months, they have now lowered their rates further.

Yuno Energy, who entered the Irish market in August, confirmed that the price cut takes place with immediate effect.

It said its new unit rate for electricity will fall to 33.66 cent per kWh, down from 38.05 cent per kWh.

The total cost for a typical customer is estimated to be €1,665 per year, according to the company which it says is €355 cheaper than the average standard rates from other suppliers.

The team behind Yuno energy also created PrepayPower, Ireland’s largest pay-as-you-go energy provider, in 2010. .
They embrace the use of smart meter technology, and their app-based services is now used by 175,000 homes across Ireland.

However, Yuno is a separate business which operates independently with its own app and a seven day a week call centre and is available to customers across the country.

Yuno chief executive Cathal Fay said: “The new rate will be particularly attractive to customers who haven’t switched energy provider in over a year.

“There is now real value to be had from switching, and Yuno is leading the way in this regard.”

Darragh Cassidy, head of communications at Bonkers.ie previously said of Yuno: "Technology is also a big part of Yuno Energy's offering. It’s using the latest technology to ensure a user-friendly experience for customers via the Yuno Energy app, where customers can manage and track their electricity usage and costs, get customer service support, and view their bills".
