Lidl have issued an urgent recall notice for popular corn dogs sold in their Irish stores amid health fears.
The food recall for a number of batches of McEnnedy Corn Dogs was issued this week with notices displayed in Lidl stores around the country.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland also published the notice and confirmed that the products are being recalled by Lidl due "the presence of Listeria monocytogenes" which can cause serious illness.
Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
"In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications," an FSAI statement indicated.
"Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
"The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days," they explained.
The product itself originates in Germany and the affected batches have use by dates of 28.04.2024, 10.06.2024 and 10.08.2024.
Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
