Major burst on high-pressure water main repaired in Dublin

Water supply has been restored to approximately 40,000 homes and businesses in Dublin after a major burst on a high-pressure main was repaired.

Uisce Eireann, formerly known as Irish Water, said Dublin City Council immediately dispatched an expert water service crew to find and fix the burst.

Crews worked through the night before the burst was finally repaired at approximately 2am.

“Every effort was made to reduce the impact on homes and businesses and restore water supply as quickly as possible,” Uisce Eireann said.

However, repairs were complex due to the location of the pipe deep underground and the presence of other services.

During the outage, Dublin City Council had turned valves to ensure water flowed from alternative areas to continue supply to as many as possible.

Uisce Eireann also arranged alternative water supplies in key locations across Dublin.

Uisce Eireann technician Joe O’Reilly said: “We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are for local communities and would like to thank all impacted customers across Dublin for their patience during while crews worked on repairs.

“I would like to thank the specialist water services crews in Dublin City Council for their dedication and expertise and for working throughout the night to limit the impact on customers and successfully complete the repairs.”

Following this type of work, occasionally issues such as cloudy water (air bubbles), discolouration or internal airlocks may arise.
