The entrance to the shopping centre
The failure to open the Naas Shopping Centre “continues to impact the area negatively.”
That’s the view of an independent councillor.
Cllr Bill Clear has asked Kildare County Council if the owners of Naas Shopping Centre have engaged with Kildare County Council “regarding the future of the site.”
He has asked "specifically", if the council has requested that the owners either reopen or demolish the property.
“This site has remained derelict for 15 years, with minimal progress observed, and it continues to impact the area negatively,” added Cllr Clear.
Last August, the plaza entrance, known as Naas Plaza, opened with a free music festival, organised by the Féile Nás na Ríogh committee.
The plaza’s courtyard-style entrance which is adjacent to the Bank of Ireland premises, has remained open to the public with seating provided.
The entrance area was praised by Irish Business Against Litter as the town finished ahead of every other town in the country in IBAL’s annual litter survey of 2024 - the results of which were announced today.
