Took Lego worth €1,260 from Kildare toy store

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

A man who took lego worth €1,260 from the Smyths toy store in Naas appeared before the local district court.

Joe Joyce, 31, whose address was given as 146 Springdale Road, Raheny, Dublin, was prosecuted for an offence on September 13, 2021 and with taking a drill  from the TJ O’Mahony store in Naas on March 11, 2022, worth  €200.

The court heard that the defendant had 14 previous convictions for theft.

The court was also told that the incidents were largely fuelled by drug addiction and the defendant had lost his parents at a young age.

The defendant is in custody where he is a model prisoner and has completed a number of courses. He is now drug free.

Judge Desmond Zaidan noted that the defendant had written a letter to the court saying  he was determined not to return to prison and this was his first time in custody.

It was also stated that he had no disciplinary issues in custody.

The judge imposed an 11 month custody term.
