Impact of sewage overflow is being assessed

Canal Harbour, Naas

Kildare County Council says the impact of a pollution incident - when sewage overflowed into the Grand Canal at the harbour in Naas - is being assessed.

A Naas Municipal District meeting was told that the pollution came  from a manhole on the banks of the Rathasker feeder stream, which flows into the canal near Basin Street.

A blockage occurred.

KCC says the effect of the incident on the stream and canal “is being assessed.”

Uisce Éireann attended the site and the public sewer was found to be free flowing at the time of the inspection and there were no indications of a discharge to the canal. UE inspectors saw  evidence of ragging around a manhole cover, which is believed to be related to a previous surcharging incident from the manhole on April 4.
