The gardaí are taking action against truck drivers who are using verges on the Clane side of the Sallins bypass as a truck stop.

Cllr Carmel Kelly told a Naas Municipal District meeting that drivers are using both sides of the road to stop and rest and this is causing problems for pedestrians and motorists.

Kildare County Council has indicated that it has been brought to the attention of the gardaí who have spoken to some of the drivers, pointing out that this is illegal.

When this happens the gardaí have moved the trucks on.

KCC said it will continue to liaise with the gardaí and pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use the footpaths and cycle paths where provided.

The council also noted that there is a footpath and cycleway on the opposite side of the road, pedestrians should be discouraged from walking on the hard shoulder.
