Jigginstown Castle, Naas
Talks are taking place between Kildare County Council about the future of Jigginstown Castle in Naas.
The castle, located on the Newbridge side of the town, has been criticised by a number of local politicians over the longstanding presence of scaffolding with one politicians joking that the scaffolding is almost historic.
The ruin dates back to the mid 1600s.
Cllr Bill Clear told a Kildare County Council meeting people are “fed up looking at it” and he also criticised the surrounding fencing.
KCC’s heritage officer Brigid Loughlin said the site was used for a time by OPW to train masons learning about brickwork.
Ms Loughlin told the meeting that a number of meetings have taken place with the OPW.
“We’re putting on as much pressure as we can to get it fixed,” said Ms Loughlin.
