No money available for new traffic lights in Naas

'There is a serious problem for drivers'

No money available for new traffic lights in Naas

The road junction

Kildare County Council has no money to pay for new traffic lights at a junction in Naas.

A request for lights where Morell Road meets Monread Avenue was made by Cllr Fintan Brett, who said there is a problem there because the population has increased.

“There is a serious problem for people exiting and turning right from Morell Road, especially in the morning,” he told a Naas Municipal District meeting.

Another councillor, Evie Sammon, said the pedestrian lights on Monread Road should be moved to the junction “to allow cars to enter and leave the estate.”

However KCC engineer Donal Hodgins indicated that traffic lights “would require significant civil engineering works” and would also necessitate the widening of the road to allow for vehicles turning right off Monread Road. He also said there are no funds to do this.

Cllr Brett disputed that a widening of the junction was needed.

“It works fine, all we need is lights,” he said.
