Roundabouts should be named after All-Ireland winning teams

Three roundabouts on a section of the ring road encircling Naas should be named after Kildare teams which won the all-Ireland senior football championship.

Cllr Seamie Moore told a Kildare County Council meeting said there are seven roundabouts on the millennium link road, near Millennium Park.

He wants three of them named The 27th, The Sam Maguire and The 28th in reference to Kildare’s All-Ireland successes of 1927 and 1928.

Kildare also won All-Ireland titles in 1905 and 1919. Cllr Moore said the newly named roundabouts would be in sequence and there was broad support among his fellow councillors for this.

The  Sam Maguire Cup was presented to the Kildare GAA in 1928 and Kildare, captained by William “Bill” Gannon, were the first county to win it.
