Naas
There is no money available for new car park signs to be put up on the approach roads to Naas.
Cllr Bob Quinn asked that Kildare County Council “take immediate action” to improve signs so that motorists are aware in advance of the location of public and private car parks as well as the number of available spaces in the town.
He also told a Naas Municipal district meeting that there should be information about opening hours and fines and it should be possible to access on a smartphone.
The councillor said there is sufficient car parking in Naas - though this was disputed by another councillor, Evie Sammon, who told of having to do a circuit of the town to find a space so she could buy a bottle of Calpol - a task made worse by the ongoing road works at Kilcullen Road.
But KCC says the existing budget is insufficient to provide this.
And “therefore the provision of new additional technology is not anticipated in the short term.”
Cllr Fintan Brett said that operators of car parks should contribute to these - if they are approved. He said these owners “can’t expect a free ride.”
