Two more men have been charged in connection with a fatal assault in the Allenwood area.

John O’Brien, 25, whose address was given as 2 Osberstown Court, Sallins and John Drennan, 27, whose address was given as 36 Colmcille Road, Edenderry, and who is in custody at Limerick Prison, face allegations of producing an article and violent disorder on January 3, 2012 at Allenwood.

They join the previously charged William Bagnall, 56, whose address was given as Allenwood South, Naas; his sons Shane Bagnall, 23, whose address was  also given as Allenwood South; Killian Bagnall, 19, also of Allenwood South and Damien Bagnall, 36, of 128 Caragh Court, Naas.

Also before the court previously was Denis O’Brien, 41 whose address was given as Malone Way Road, Allenwood.

Garda Conor Boyle gave evidence of arresting and charging John O’Brien, who made no reply.

Detective Garda Wayne Kelly said John Drennan also made no reply and the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial by indictment, meaning the case will be heard in another court.

Det Garda Kelly outlined a series of alleged incidents in Allenwood South on January 3, 2021.

He said it will also be alleged that a shotgun was produced at an address and was placed in the mouth of an injured party and was also used to hit a person.

He also claimed a demand was made for €16,000.

He also said it will be claimed that a baseball bat was used to smash the windscreen and side window of a car.

He said the deceased Mark Loughlin, aged 29 and from Edenderry, was assaulted with “what we believe to be an axe.”

Det Gda Kelly said Mark Loughlin had suffered hypothermia because of the weather conditions and drug intake.

John Drennan was remanded in custody with consent to bail - an independent surety of €3,000 or cash in lieu.

If he takes up bail he must sign on daily at a garda station, observe a curfew between 9am and 6pm and  provide an address when one is available.

He was also directed to hand in his passport and provide a mobile phone number and have no contact  with witnesses.

He will otherwise next appear in court by video link.

John O’Brien was granted bail of a cash lodgement of €5,000 or an independent surety  and he was directed to follow similar conditions.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said he was giving the gardaí permission to call to his address at any time, day or night, and he must notify them of any change of address.

His case was adjourned to November 15.
