Residents at the site entrance today
A demonstration is a taking place outside a site to be used to accommodate refugees from the war in Ukraine.
It's the latest in the series of protests at a former equestrian centre in Kill organised by local residents, who say they are not getting enough information from the authorities about the plan.
They also say that the local school cannot cope with a large influx of children and medical services are already under capacity pressure.
The plan is for the Department of Children, Equality , Integration, Disability and Youth to bring 165 people to the site of a on the outskirts of the village.
The department previously undertook to provide updated information to the local representatives and no refugees - or beneficiaries of temporary protection as the department refers to them - would move in before these representatives are briefed.
Kildare Mayor and local councillor Fintan Brett condemned the “utter failure” of the department to to engage with the local politicians or community or “to tell anyone what is going on.”
He told a Naas Municipal District meeting: “We're seeking information and we’re being totally ignored.”
And he drew a comparison with the opening of the nearby Kerdiffstown House to homeless people five years ago.
He said 90 people arrived at Kerdiffstown House and this created issues in Johnstown.
He said work is taking place at the site and one story in circulation has it that 2,000 people will be moving in.
