Emily Square, Athy
Kildare County Council officially launched its new KCC Free WiFi service at Emily Square in Athy on Thursday. This new service is being introduced on a pilot basis.
The WiFi coverage caters for Emily Square, and the area between the Branch Library and the bank of the River Barrow, adjacent to the Courthouse. It has a range of up to 200 metres from the front of the Heritage Centre building at Emily Square. The service is expected to be of great benefit to the citizens of Athy, as well as visiting business people and tourists.
570 unique devices have connected to the service since it went live on 20 July last. The Council hopes to extend the WiFi service to the general area of the Dominican Church on the southern side of the river when the Library Service relocates to new premises during 2017. It is expected that this pilot model will be developed and repeated in other towns throughout County Kildare.
