Derby tea party to be held in Kildare for Peter McVerry Trust

Festival fun at last year's Derby Parade

A tea party in aid of the Peter McVerry Trust for homelessness will be held in conjunction with Derby Festival and Thoroughbred Run on June 19.

Local councillor Suzanne Doyle and organiser said that Peter McVerry’s operate a hostel on Eyre street in Newbridge.

“Through my own work I have had first hand experience of the tremendous work they do, not just in sourcing housing but also in providing practical supports in sustaining tenancies for the more vulnerable members of community.”

According to Cllr Doyle this issue has always existed but has been hugely exacerbated by the housing supply problem we are currently experiencing.

“The Peter McVerry Trust have a long and worthy reputation in the field of homeless and are well acknowledged experts,” she added.

“Much like the traditional Boston Tea Parties, we are aiming to have volunteers take responsibility for a table -picnic table supplied that can accommodate 10 people - where they will host a table of friends, family and neighbours.

“Each guest will make a contribution to the charity and it is hoped that these will range from €10 to €50 per person. Tables can be co hosted, or might be hosted by an residential estate committee where each guest might like to bring something to the table. We invite hosts to theme their table and will have a prize for best novelty tea party or picnic.”

This coincides with festival activity on the Square with parade, taste of Kildare and vintage carnival rides. Allsupport welcome.
