€5.7 million extension project at UPMC Kildare Hospital in Clane,
Construction has begun on a €5.7 million extension project at UPMC Kildare Hospital in Clane, aimed at enhancing medical facilities and patient care services.
The development, located on the Prosperous Road in Clane, involves modifications to a previously approved planning permission.
The project will see the expansion of key clinical areas, including the Endoscopy Unit and the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), both of which are essential to hospital operations.
Plans include an enlarged building footprint for these departments, along with revised internal layouts to improve workflow and efficiency.

As part of the works, existing rear structures, including toilets and office space, are being demolished to make way for the upgraded facilities.
Additional improvements include the installation of new rooflights to enhance natural light in recovery areas and office spaces. Rooflights will also be added to the front of the building, where a first-floor storeroom is being converted into new office accommodation.
The project also includes the installation of a new electrical substation, as well as a generator enclosure with an associated fuel store, ensuring continued power supply and resilience for hospital operations.
The development is being carried out by UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic Ltd, with design work led by Moloney O'Beirne Architects. Construction is being undertaken by Moston Construction Ltd..
The extension is expected to significantly improve capacity and modernise facilities at the hospital, which provides a range of surgical and diagnostic services to patients across Kildare and surrounding counties.
Once completed, the upgraded departments are set to support increased demand for procedures and enhance patient experience through improved infrastructure and clinical environments.
