A Kildare driver was said by gardaí to have played 'Russian roulette' with other motorists' lives.

Naas Roads Policing carried out a speed enforcement checkpoint on the L2019 at Porterstown, Kildare recently.

The driver in question was detected driving 85km/h in a 60km/h zone – 25km/h over the legal speed limit.

The same driver then failed a roadside drug test for cocaine and was arrested on the spot by gardaí.

The individual is now heading to court and faces:

  • Automatic disqualification from driving;

  • A hefty fine and a very real possibility of prison time.

A garda spokesperson said of the offence: “An Garda Síochána Kildare has a clear message:

Speed + Drugs = You WILL be caught. You WILL face court. You WILL lose your licence, and you WILL pay the price.

We are out there every single day protecting the decent people of Kildare from dangerous drivers like this.

Slow down - stay off drugs or stay off our roads.”
