Colleagues and friends from the Kildare Garda Division gathered in Newbridge last week to mark the retirement of Superintendent Oliver Henry, who is stepping down after 30 years of dedicated service.

Superintendent Henry began his career in 1995 as a young Garda fresh out of college, and over the decades rose through the ranks to Sergeant in 2005, Inspector in 2014, and Superintendent since 2019.

A Kildare Garda spokesperson said that throughout his career, he served the communities of County Kildare and beyond with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to public safety.

At the retirement gathering in Newbridge Town Hall, speakers praised his leadership, dedication to community policing, and the support he provided to fellow officers.

Colleagues highlighted the positive impact he had on both the force and the communities he served.

Reflecting on his career, Superintendent Henry said: “Policing became something I genuinely came to love. It gave me the privilege of working with outstanding colleagues and being part of work that really matters to communities.

“I step away from the uniform now with enormous appreciation for the colleagues, partners and communities I had the privilege to work with.”

He added that the journey shaped him both personally and professionally, expressing gratitude for the opportunities, people, and experiences that defined his career.

As he begins this next chapter, the Kildare Garda spokesperson added that Superintendent Henry leaves with the respect and admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of the communities he served so faithfully.
