Naas Roads Policing Unit recently conducted speed checks on local roads at Blacktrench and Mylerstown, Robertstown, Co Kildare where the speed limit is 60 km/h.
During the operation, a total of eight Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) were issued to drivers travelling well over the limit.
The highest recorded speed was 99 km/h.
A Kildare garda spokesperson stated: “Driving at that speed on a local road puts lives at serious risk. These roads are used daily by residents, families, pedestrians and cyclists.
“Speed limits are in place to protect everyone. Gardaí will continue to carry out enforcement operations. Slow down and respect the limit.”
