Public lights in part of Naas should be replaced, at Naas Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Bill Clear also said some are 20 years old and “are starting to fail.”
Meanwhile, Cllr Ger Dunne called for the ESB or the public lighting contractor to fix all public lighting not working in the Naas area “in the interest of public safety.”
Kildare County Council said it actively engages with ESB Networks and its public lighting maintenance contractor “to complete repairs in a timely manner.”
KCC engineer Dónal Hodgins said any repairs which are within the remit and control of the council, and which do not require extensive civil engineering works, are completed in a timely manner.

“There is no legal recourse to compel ESB Networks to provide faster responses and as a result public street lights which require the specialist input of the ESB staff can remain unrepaired for periods,” he added.
He also said KCC will approach the ESB and the maintenance contractor to address these delays and to seek a more efficient repair process going forward.
