Naas Roads Policing unit were on patrol in Carbury and Maynooth in North Kildare recently when they detected a large number of drivers speeding.

Speeds of 115kph and 112kph were recorded in an 80kph zone.

Each motorist received a €160 Fixed Charge Penalty Notice and three penalty points.

A garda spokesperson said: “Let’s be clear: speed limits are limits — not targets. They are not there to be broken.

But this isn’t about fines.

It’s about families. It’s about communities. It’s about getting everyone home safely.

"Speeding reduces your reaction time. Speeding increases stopping distance. Speeding turns mistakes into tragedies.

"Please slow down. Get the point — not the points.”
