Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon has welcomed progress on the new school building project for the Curragh Community College.
"I am delighted to confirm the positive news for the Curragh Community College, that the Department of Education has issued a letter of intent containing details of a preferred contractor and project details for the new 1,000 pupil school on the Magee Barracks site in Kildare Town”, Minister Heydon said this week.
“This very significant development is the point of no return for the project and means construction will be now able to proceed in the very near future. I know how much the new school building is needed and I have been working with my colleague Minister Hildegarde Naughton for progress on this project.

The Minister said “great credit” is due to Principal Nessa Doyle, her board of management, students and staff for their perseverance in pursuing the project.
“I continue to work with the school and department on delivery of the emergency works for the current building while construction of the new school is carried out, but this is a very important milestone in delivery of much needed extra secondary school capacity for South Kildare”, concluded Minister Heydon.
