The implementation of a school zone is being sought for one South Kildare area.
The request was heard at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, February 16 last.
Specifically, the request was made by Labour Party councillor Mark Leigh, who motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to implement the school zone at Scoil Náistiúnta Cill Bhearaigh in Kilberry.
His motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian Dooley.
Speaking further on the matter, Cllr Leigh warned KCC that the area "is very dangerous".

He also claimed that there is an "absence of traffic calming measures" in this region.
"The current layout offers very little protection," Cllr Leigh added.
Replying to his motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Municipal District Office will investigate the matter."
However, KCC also told Cllr Leigh that if the school did not apply for this through the Safe Routes to Schools scheme, then a funding source would have to be identified for these works.
