In Naas, Co Kildare on Valentines night, Saturday February 14, Naas Community Gardai came across no less than 12 vehicles illegally parked in disabled parking bays.

Gardaí discovered:

12 cars illegally parked in disabled bays;

Some cars were left empty;

Some with hazard lights on;

One driver stating they were “just collecting fast food”;

Two others claiming they weren’t parked — “only stopped”;

One waiting on pub-goers;

One sitting eating a pizza.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána stated: “Let’s be clear: A disabled parking bay is not a takeaway collection point. It’s not a waiting area. It’s not a “I’ll only be five minutes” spot. And hazard lights are not a free pass.

“These spaces exist for people who genuinely need them — people with mobility issues, families with special needs, elderly drivers. When you take that space, even “just for a minute,” you’re taking it from someone who may have no alternative.”

€150 Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued.

The spokesperson added: “Zero tolerance. Respect isn’t seasonal. It doesn’t switch off after 6pm. And it certainly doesn’t disappear because you fancy a pizza.”
