There was a strong Kildare contingent in the Maynooth University starting lineup when they were edged by University of Limerick in their Sigerson Cup quarter-final meeting last night.

MU looked to be almost there as the end of regulation time approached with late scores from Carbury's Eoin Cully and Kerryman Luke Crowley pushing them three clear into added-time.

It was UL substitute and Tipperaryman Daithí Hogan who sent this game into extra-time when he found the net in the 61st minute to grab UL's second goal and draw this game level at 2-9 to 0-15.

It was UL who kicked on in extra-time too adding 1-7 to their total while reducing Maynooth to just two points. The game finished 3-16 to 0-17 with UL's goal threat throughout this game paying dividends. Clane goalkeeper Cian Burke was between the sticks for MU and he helped them maintain their narrow lead midway through the second half when he saved a penalty from Frank Irwin in the 44th minute.

The other Lilies involved were Rob Fitzgerald (Naas) and Ryan Burke (Caragh) in the full-back line, as well as Aaron Browne (Celbridge) and James Harris (Castlemitchell) who got 0-4 and 0-2 respectively, and finally Sallins' Luke Killian.
