A councillor expressed his view that Kildare County Council (KCC) may "underestimate the importance" of a Kildare-based GAA Club.
The comments were made by Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian O'Loughlin at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, January 21 last.
The subject was initially raised when Cllr O'Loughlin submitted a motion calling for KCC to "commit to providing a pedestrian footpath along the road adjacent to Ellistown GAA [Club], which also contains the local playground and crèche".
Explaining his decision further, Cllr O'Loughlin added: "The club has identified the existing hedging as a sightline obstruction and has proposed to have it removed in the interest of safety."
His motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Kevin Duffy.

In response, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting that the MD Office "does not currently have plans or funding to construct a footpath at this location."
However, Cllr O'Loughlin appeared to be dissatisfied with this response, and added: "KCC seems to underestimate the importance of Ellistown GAA Club."
He emphasised to KCC that the club's grounds providing "an active playground and crèche".
In addition, he said that the road markings in the region "are not sufficient" at present.
"The club is seeking a footpath that only measures 60 metres, including the entrance. I don't think it's a big ask," he told KCC.
Furthermore, he said that he wanted KCC to "at the very least, review the area [for suitability of installing a footpath]".
His sentiments were also supported by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly, who noted that he is a member of the club and "is very aware of the congestion affecting the area".
