Naas Roads Policing conducted a speed check on the R402, North Kildare, recently and detected a 17-year-old novice driver travelling at 113km/h in an 80km/h zone.
A Garda spokesperson said of the offence: “At that speed, one mistake can be fatal — not just for the driver, but for passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.”
The driver will be dealt with under the Juvenile Diversion Programme, and their parents have been informed.
The garda spokesperson added: “Speed limits exist for a reason. They are not targets — they are lifesaving limits.
If you’re a young driver: slow down.
If you’re a parent: talk to your children about road safety.
If you’re behind the wheel: remember that arriving late is better than not arriving at all.
Speeding destroys lives. Don’t let it be yours.”
