Today, Wednesday, January 21 2026, An Garda Síochána will be conducting a National Day of Action focused on vehicle and driver compliance, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce serious and fatal collisions.

Gardaí will be highly visible nationwide, carrying out checkpoints and targeted enforcement using advanced technology.

In particular, An Garda Síochána Kildare Carlow will be checking that drivers and vehicles are meeting essential legal requirements, including:

  • Holding a valid and appropriate driving licence

  • Up-to-date motor tax and a valid NCT

  • Valid motor insurance, identified using real-time data systems

  • Proper seat belt use for all occupants

  • No illegal mobile phone use while driving

These checks are designed to protect all road users and address behaviours that significantly increase the risk of collisions.
