BREAKING: Kildare firefighters tackle town centre blaze emergency

Firefighters at the scene this afternoon in Naas town centre

Emergency services personnel are at the scene of a town centre fire in Naas this afternoon.

It's understood that the fire took place in part of the premises occupied by Murphy Brothers Funeral Directors, a long established business in the town. Smoke was visible in the area.

A section of the town centre is closed to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians

Up to seven Kildare Fire Service vehicles were at the scene and dealt with the incident from Church Lane, which connects Corbans Lane with South Main Street. The vehicles deployed included two fire tenders and a water tanker.

Church Lane is a one way route and it is currently closed off by gardaí to pedestrians as well as vehicles.

Also closed off is a section of the thoroughfare that normally accommodates the taxi rank, just off South Main Street.

A number of firefighters are at the scene, which is close to Naas Presbyterian Church and just across the street from the Naas Library & Cultural Centre.

It is understood that it started roughly between 11am and noon and nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
