Naas Roads Policing Unit (Naas RPU) detected multiple motorists speeding through the Kildare village of Prosperous on January 3 last, despite freezing conditions.

The detections were made as part of a speed checkpoint carried out by Naas RPU.

One driver was recorded travelling at 80 km/h and another at 75 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

All offending drivers received €160 Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) and three penalty points.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Speeding in freezing conditions is reckless. Braking distances increase dramatically, vehicle control is reduced, and the margin for error is almost zero.

A moment of impatience can have life-changing consequences. Slow down. No journey is worth a life.”
