Man knocked down by vehicle and subsequently assaulted with weapons near Kildare border

A man was knocked down by a vehicle and subsequently assaulted with weapons in an incident which occurred near the Kildare-Dublin border.

According to a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána (AGS), gardaí based in Ronanstown are investigating a serious assault that occurred in Cappaghmore estate, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on the evening of Friday, December 5 last.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.30pm.

Explaining the nature of the crime, the spokesperson said: "A man, aged in his late 30s, was knocked down by a vehicle and a number of men exited the vehicle and continued to assault him with weapons.

"The man was brought to Beaumont Hospital where he currently remains in a critical condition.

"Gardaí attached to Lucan and Ronanstown Garda Station, with the assistance of the Armed Support units, conducted a number of searches yesterday morning, Wednesday December 17 last. During the course of these searches, electronic devices and weapons were seized."

The spokesperson further said that AGS is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them: "Any persons who were in the Cappaghmore Estate / Ninth Lock Road area of Clondalkin between 6pm and 7pm on the evening of Friday, December 5 last and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."

They added that anyone with any information is asked to contact Ronanstown Garda Station on 01 666 7700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
