As part of its ongoing Road Safety Christmas Campaign, #NaasRPU attended the R402 at Ardkill, Carbury, Co Kildare following local complaints.
Residents reported difficulty exiting their driveways and side roads due to vehicles travelling at excessive speeds.
This section of road is 80kph, has multiple entrances and junctions - some complex. Despite poor weather and driving conditions last evening, several motorists were detected speeding - some driving in excess of 30 kph over the legal limit.
All motorists detected speeding received a €160 fine and three penalty points on their licence.
An Garda Síochána's message is:
“Drive within the speed limit appropriate to the road, weather, and traffic conditions. Remember – Speed Kills.
“Stay safe, slow down, and help us keep our roads safe this Christmas.”
