The last meeting of the year for the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District takes place on Friday, December 19 2025 in Kildare, offering councillors a final chance to have motions passed before the year end.
First off, a seasonal motion from Cllr David Trost (FF), which calls on the council to introduce and publish a list of dates the road sweeper will visit all estates in Celbridge/Leixlip and Ardclough next year “during the peak leaf falling season.”
According to Cllr Trost, this would assist residents associations and individuals in knowing when to clear leaves from green areas and paths and would advise people not to park in areas which are scheduled to be cleaned.
Next up, a motion from Cllr Nuala Killeen (SD), who requests that the council engage with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) in relation to seeking layout and traffic flow improvements on the junction of the R148 and R403 to facilitate traffic exiting Leixlip.
A motion from Labour councillor, Rupert Heather calls on the council to incorporate a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and/or playground into the emerging design for the Celbridge-Hazelhatch Mobility Corridor.
In Cllr Heather's motion, the council is further asked to confirm “the feasibility, indicative location options, and funding pathways to ensure that high-quality recreational spaces are delivered alongside the active-travel corridor.”
Meanwhile, a second motion from Cllr Nuala Killeen (SD) asks that the members support a request to write to the Health Service Executive to enquire about the future proposals for the proposed Leixlip Primary Care Centre.
On another matter, Cllr Claire O'Rourke (SD) raises the worrying matter of the Fire Service being unable to gain access to Castetown House for at the locked main gates at Lime Avenue in Celbridge, on Saturday December 6 last.
This, Cllr O'Rourke argues, is despite the council's report to an MD meeting on September 23 2024 that “Kildare Fire Service has access to the grounds of Castletown via the main gates at Lime Avenue” and “has possession of keys to those gates held on its appliances at Maynooth and Leixlip Fire Stations.”
A second motion from Cllr O'Rourke asks the municipal district to invite the Office of Public Works (OPW) to the next MD meeting, to hear “a broad step-plan for Donaghcumper House”, in light of the “magnificent restoration of Castletown House by the OPW over the last decades.”
And last, but not least, a motion from Cllr Paul Brooks (FG) is straight and to the point: that the council engage with Uisce Éireann to understand what the short and long-term plans are for dealing with the repeated loss of water supply in Leixlip, a longstanding concern for the Kildare town.
